Connecting with nature has many mental and physical health benefits for people of all ages. Increasingly, experts are learning more about the healing properties of the outdoors for veterans, military service members, and their families.

The Youth Outdoors Initiative is designed to promote outdoor activities and conservation efforts, ensuring that various communities, including military families, have ample opportunities to connect with nature and develop life skills. The partnership has intentionally engaged children of military families, as well as provided opportunities for entire families to explore nature together.

YMCAs served over 1,300 children from military families through the Youth Outdoors Initiative in 2024!
